Jackie Gleason presents Lonesome Echo (1955, Capitol Records) (Art: Salvador Dali)
From the sublime to the ridiculous, we close the show with this odd-ball paring of Dali (artist) and Gleason (conductor) for Capitol records that actually went to #1 on the U.S. Pop charts. Dali’s note from the rear cover: "The first effect is that of anguish, of space, and of solitude. Secondly, the fragility of the wings of a butterfly, projecting long shadows of late afternoon, reverberates in the landscape like an echo. The feminine element, distant and isolated, forms a perfect triangle with the music instruments and its other echo, the shell." Gleason’s response: “Whatever you say, Pally!”
