Bloomfield/Kooper – Live Adventures of (1968, Columbia) (Art: Norman Rockwell)
After decades of illustrations for the Saturday Evening Post, Rockwell began working for Look Magazine with a focus on more serious themes including poverty and civil rights. Appealing to a younger generation once again, Rockwell was commissioned to create the cover art for this live blues-rock recording. A stoic yet doleful portrait of Bloomfield and Kooper, the artist’s brushstroke is ever present in this contemplative image.
Pure Prairie League – S/T (1972, RCA) (Art: Norman Rockwell)
Coming full circle, Rockwell’s 1927 oil painting “Dreams of Long Ago”, which graced the cover of the Saturday Evening Post that same year, is featured on the cover of this debut album. The character of “Sad Luke” the cow-poke would become the Pure Prairie League trademark, along with the same Post font-style for the bands moniker.
